What is a stick figure animation?

A stick figure animation, often called a stickman video, tells a story or explains an idea with a voiceover over simple drawings: round heads, line bodies and just enough of the world around them to tell what is happening. The style took off on YouTube with history, psychology and "what if" channels, and funny stick figure videos are everywhere on Shorts and TikTok.

It works because there is nothing to decode. A viewer understands a stickman hiding behind a rock or counting coins at a glance, so their attention stays on the narration. Because the drawings are so plain, a small detail like a crown, a sword or a raised eyebrow stands out and carries the scene.

Making a stick figure video by hand is slow. Every scene needs its own drawing, the drawings have to match the voiceover sentence by sentence, and the characters have to look the same in every frame. A ten-minute video can need more than a hundred pictures. This generator does that part: you bring the story, and it draws, voices and times every scene.

What your stickman characters will look like

Every character has the classic look: a round white head, an expressive face and line arms and legs, drawn with bold black hand-drawn outlines and flat solid colors. The world around them changes with the story, from two figures by a campfire to a busy lab, a café or a sunlit forest. There is no 3D or photorealism, so the stick figures always stay the focus.

Every person in a scene is drawn as a stickman, named historical figures included. Recurring characters keep one or two simple markers, like a gray beard, a hat or a colored coat, so viewers can follow who is who.

In every scene

  • Round white heads
  • Expressive faces
  • Bold black outlines
  • Flat solid colors
  • Settings that match the story
  • No 3D or photorealism
  • Stickman scientist in safety goggles holding a test tube in a lab
  • Two stick figures roasting meat over a campfire
  • Stickman drinking coffee at a laptop in a busy café
  • Stick figure hiker with a walking stick in a sunlit forest

Tips for a better stick figure animation

  1. 1

    Write for pictures

Concrete sentences make clear scenes. "A farmer counts his last three coins" draws better than "times were economically difficult".

  2. 2

    Give characters a marker

Mention one simple detail when someone first appears, like a red cape or a long beard. It helps the same stickman look the same from scene to scene.

  3. 3

    Open with the question

Put the most surprising fact or question in the first sentence. Viewers decide whether to keep watching in the first two seconds.

  4. 4

Match the length to the platform

Keep Shorts, TikTok and Reels to one idea in 30 to 90 seconds. Save the deep dives for horizontal YouTube videos of several minutes.

What the generator does for you

  • Script from a single line

Type a topic or pick a niche and get a complete script that opens with a hook, ready to edit, or paste a script you already wrote.

  • A picture for every scene

Scenes follow the narration, so what's on screen changes with what's being said instead of looping a few stock drawings.

  • Expressions that fit the story

Every visible face gets a clear expression that matches the moment, from a proud smile to an angry glare.

  • Voiceover and captions included

Pick a voice from the library, or clone your own in supported languages. Captions are timed to every word.

  • Any format, any pace

Make 9:16 videos for Shorts, TikTok and Reels or 16:9 videos of up to eight minutes for YouTube, with fast, regular or slow pacing.

  • Motion when you want it

Turn on Add motion and the scenes are animated, so your stickman characters move on screen. Motion uses extra credits.

Frequently asked questions

Is the stick figure video generator free?

Writing the script is free, and you don't need an account for it: generate one from a topic or paste your own. Turning it into a video uses credits. The Style step shows what your video will cost before you generate anything.

Do I need to draw or animate anything?

No. You write or generate the script and pick a voice. ShortsCrafter splits the script into scenes, draws a stickman picture for each one, records the voiceover and times the captions to it.

Can the stick figures move?

Yes, if you want them to. Each scene starts as a drawing that changes with the narration. Turn on Add motion in the Scenes step and the scenes are animated, so your stickman characters move on screen. Motion uses extra credits.

Can I make funny stick figure videos?

Yes. The drawings follow your script, so the tone is up to you. Paste a script with your own jokes, or type a funny premise as the topic, like "What if cats ran the government?", and edit the script until the jokes land. The expressive stickman faces help every punchline read.

How long can a stickman video be?

Vertical videos for Shorts, Reels and TikTok run 30 to 60 or 60 to 90 seconds. Horizontal 16:9 videos for YouTube can run from 1 to 2 minutes up to 6 to 8 minutes. A script you paste in sets the length by itself.

Can I use my own script?

Yes. Switch to Use your text and paste a finished script, or generate one from a topic and edit it before you save. The voiceover reads exactly what is in the script box.

Which languages are supported?

Scripts and voiceovers work in English, German, Polish, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Hindi and Turkish.

Will the characters show emotions?

Yes. Every character whose face is visible gets a clear expression that fits the moment, like a proud smile, a frown, an angry glare or wide-eyed surprise, so viewers can read the mood of a scene at a glance.

Can I change a scene I don't like?

Yes. After the video is generated you can regenerate the picture for any scene before you export, and you can still switch to another art style in the Style step if stick figures turn out not to suit the topic.

What do I download?

An MP4 with the voiceover and captions built in, plus background music if you add it, vertical or horizontal depending on the format you picked. Upload it straight to YouTube, TikTok or Instagram, or bring it into CapCut or Premiere for extra edits.
